Differences and similarities between extruders and injection molding machines

Release time:

2021-05-17

Whether it is a plasticizing extruder or a plastic processing machine formed into a certain shape. Although they have similar functions, differences between them still exist. Structure, screw and barrel are used for machine plasticization and conveying of plastics. However, for extruders, the screw has a larger diameter and L/D ratio. Procedure, the extruder continuously extrudes plastic through the die to form products, such as plastic pipes, sheets, profiles and rods. Injection molding machines do not work continuously. Plastic will be injected into the closed mold cavity. When the cavity is filled, the machine will stop working and the plastic mold will be cooled and shaped. This machine will take the plastic mold out of the mold.

Whether it is a plasticizing extruder or a plastic processing machine, they are shaped to a certain form. Although they have similar functions, differences between them still exist.

In terms of structure, both extruders and injection molding machines use screws and barrels to plasticize and transport plastic. However, for extruders, the screw has a larger diameter and L/D ratio.

In terms of process, extruders continuously extrude plastic through a die to form products, such as plastic pipes, sheets, profiles, and rods. Injection molding machines work discontinuously. Plastic will be injected into a closed mold cavity. When the cavity is filled, the machine will stop working, and the plastic mold will be cooled and shaped. The machine will work again after the plastic mold is taken out of the mold. The products produced by injection molding machines have relatively complex structures, such as plastic cups and pot shells.

Both machines can process most plastics. The difference in the materials used is that the materials used in extruders can have higher viscosity. The reason for injection molding machines is that the plastic flows inside the mold, and the flow channels inside the mold are usually curved and narrow.

When both machines are started, the current will be 3 to 4 times or up to 6 to 7 times the current when the machine is working normally.

These are the general differences and similarities between extruders and injection molding machines.
